Farm School is Back!

Kate, Alex and I have started the spring session of "Farm School" at Drumlin Farm. This year we are doing the family class, which allows "backpack" babies for free. It has been great so far! I am not the only mama with a newborn: there is an infant 6 weeks younger than Alex (with a four year old)and a VERY pregnant mama with a three year old. Alex was 8 weeks old when we started. It has rained 3 weeks in a row and when they say 'rain or shine', they mean it. I bring my umbrella and keep Alex close and warm. She doesn't mind a bit (most of the time)We went to see the new lambs the second week
They are ADORABLE
This lamb is bottle fed because he is a triplet and his mama doesn't have enough milk. She may nurse eventually, but, like human infants, they get 'nipple confusion' and may not be able to nurse.

Sadly, one mother of twins died from a uterine rupture during birth. They keep the lambs under heating lamps and feed them by bottle.

Kate: "That lamb has a milk mustache!!! My baby sister sometimes has a milk mustache after she nurses""

The other lambs chase their mamas around the yard to nurse
It was so cool being there so close!

We also took a short hike through the woods. This place is a toddler's dream. They have random forts in the woods, along with boxes to put 'stuff' in, and tree stumps to climb. We could have stayed all day if it had not been for rain, 40 degree temps and a screaming newborn (ours).

We had the most magnificent turkeys cross our path!! Who would look at these magnificent things and think ...mmm lemme shoot and eat it? I can see the starving Pilgrims, etc., but now? Just a thought. No, I am not politicizing Kate and Alex's blog. Just a thought when I saw them.
I missed the pic of the giant snapper turtle. It is VERY hard to watch Kate, comfort/nurse Alex, socialize, and take pics. So, I usually just enjoy the moment and take a pic if I have a free second.
