Big Girl Bed

On June 11, we moved Kate from her crib to a toddler bed. She never climbed out of the crib! We knew it would be a tough transition for the whole family, but felt that it was time for her to start sleeping in a bed. We approached the transition by setting up the bed in her room and giving her the choice between the crib and the bed. We never mentioned Alex would be moving into the crib at some point. She was very excited about the whole thing and chose the bed the first night and never looked back! SHE actually suggested that Alexandra take the crib. We figured we will wait a few weeks at least. The end of an era
Can Alex just sleep in here with me?

New bed! The curious George sheets sweetened the deal. She then realized "Mama, you can READ in bed!! I can get my own books my own self!"

The idea that she could read in bed at first was just a daytime thing...but one night I came in to check on her and she was kneeling at the edge of her bed reading "Caps for Sale" by the dim light of her nightlight looking very guilty. When I told Steve, he said he had suspected because he was finding piles of books on the floor in the AM. Mmmmm. I don't want to discourage her reading, but she has been a TIRED girl in the AM. We'll see where this goes! It was really so sweet that I couldn't scold her.

My big girlA big bed means night time toilet training too. We put her in pull-ups and to our surprise she has been dry 90% of the time. Yay, Kate!
Downside of nighttime training: sometimes Kate comes out of the room a half dozen times in the hour or two after bed time to pee. It is getting old fast! We try to make it a non-issue and hope the novelty will wear off. She is definitely more tired in the AM these days.
