Snow Storm # 3

2265

We have had 3 major snow storms in Cambridge this January. Our snow totals are around 40" for January alone (not counting the Christmas weekend Blizzard that dumped ~15"). Boston has already spent HALF of their 2011 snow removal budget in the first 3 weeks of the year.

It will be a miracle if baby isn't born during a blizzard. Forecast for my due date (Feb 2)? Possible heavy snow....

Kate is sick of it. I needed to really coax her out for this last storm, but once we were out she had a great time. School cancelled today!!
They have really perfected clearing the sidewalk in front of our place. Although, our snow removal company forgot about us this AM and our garage was plowed in until 10AM. I had to cancel my MD appt. Elevator dead, car dead, trapped in garage, all with in 2 days. Well, statistically speaking, these things should not be issues when I go into labor...

And what better way to get labor started than to go for a snow hike pulling a 32Lb toddler on a sled?
Our bike path
Kate's only complaint? No fast enough. I was trying....
I could have taken her pic all day she was so happy on the sled

Then she spiced it up a bit.

She literally was in over her head when she finally scaled the bank. I couldn't take pics and help her stay up at the same time.

Look at these banks! The snow on the side of Mass Ave is so deep, it is essentially one lane (on each side) at this point. Some side streets are barely one lane and not worth venturing down. People parking on the streets have lost mirrors.
This is how most sidewalks look. Those that are cleared are only about a foot and half wide. No strollers out there these days!
How do we get into the bike path? Kate thought this was great. I really wish I could be up there with her

Chillin
The snow banks on Mass Ave are taller than Kate

Thank god she can pretty much dress/undress herself these days (even her mittens!). I have a had enough time getting my own boots on and off

The best part of snow, as Kate reminded me, is the hot chocolate. Kate wanted to sit on a book like Curious George does....

Killing Time Having Fun

Josh and Miss let us borrow this swing for baby sister. We didn't use one with Kate, but are happy to prepare with any possible tools to help with baby sister. Kate has already learned all of the controls and Butchie serves as a great practice baby sis.Reading to Butch in the swing
Dress up! Love the Patriots slippers

Added jeggings
Dancing all day
Oh, and the underwear over the jeggings are great
Kate finished the sticker book from Auntie Donna in less than a month. She is now onto the one from Grandma. She is a real pro these days!
Looks so much like her papa

Snow bound days of January

We have been going pretty stir-crazy. What a winter! Here are some random pics.

Kate took the top off of her humidifier. I guess she thought her frog jammies needed an appropriate hat. We pretty much are in our jams all afternoon these days. Too cold and dark to go out after nap!
Grandpa and Grandma Henny visited from VT and went to the Museum of Science with Kate and Papa. Mama stayed home and nested.

Kate also is insisting on dressing herself these days. Here she is in the "snuggle pillow/Mama nest" as she likes to call it
I bought a gingerbread house at Trader Joe's during Xmas but never got around to making it. It was fun!
Kate stuck all of the people on the tree and the dog on top.
Stealing a piece of it later on. It was actually pretty nasty. I let her have the candies off of it but I tossed the rest.

Another foot of snow on the way for tomorrow. If this baby is not born during a blizzard, it will be a miracle. I'm just happy it wasn't yesterday; our elevator was broken AND the car wouldn't start. It was 12 degrees F and still tons of snow on the ground. That would have been bad...I don't feel like taking a cab to the hospital.

Preschool post-blizzard

Although all of the surrounding towns had the day after the blizzard off as well, Cambridge opened. This was the first time I have been on the parent's side of snow days. As a student and a teacher, I was always crossing my fingers for them to cancel, but now as a parent I am hoping they open!
It is still hard to see them go...

There was no way I was driving to pick her up, so I decided to walk. Not a single bus passed me, so thank god I started out early! It was a great walk up Mass Ave.

Makes me SO thankful we have a garage. How can we ever go back to on-street parking??
St. John the Evangelist (where Kate was Baptized)

Pretty picturesque

Preschool street. Glad I didn't drive! Pick-ups are hard enough on regular days because of parking (and I have a Cambridge sticker). We will be using the bus most of the time or walking when the weather is nice. It is only a mile and a quarter away
Looks so pretty!

I snuck around back to see if I could catch Kate playing. I wish I had a secret camera there so I could see at school!
I was able to watch for a minute before she noticed me. The kids were having a great time in the snow. Those poor teachers putting on all those coats and suits, and mittens...shudder.

Music with Papa

Steve broke out his guitars this weekend. Kate prefers the electric guitar (louder) and INSISTS Steve use a red pick (not the black one) for the red guitar. She was a quick study turning up the amp. Here she is strumming with him. She also pulled out some if her instruments for a jam session...
