Had her 2 year checkup: 35" (70th percentile) and 28.3 lbs (60th percentile). She had a few shots and blood drawn, but was very brave! We went to the Children's Museum that day to grease the wheels...
Continues to talk. Some favorite catch phrases this month:
Me: "Kate, that is enough toothpaste" Kate: " NO! I want too much toothpaste. Give me too much!"
Me: "Kate, are you ready for your nap?" Kate: "No, not quite. I'm not quite ready"
Steve tried giving her the wrong box of raisins, and after a fuss, she calmed down. She then told Steve " I not crying, I was just worried"
"I promise I'll never leave"
Uses "I'm OK" "That's OK" and "are you OK?" appropriately and hilariously
"Sorry, mama, I'm frustrated"
When asked "what's your name?" says Katherine Cherington, I live in Cambridge
Refuses to say she is 2. Says 1, says 3, but coyly smiles when asked her real age
Sings "Twinkle Twinkle" every night to the bright star outside of her window (although we we recently informed it is actually a planet, most likely Jupiter. Thanks, Mark)
She had her first boat ride to Martha's Vineyard
Told us she was moving to Boston. To live with Ducks. And she will bring a suitcase full of zippers and Gramma will be there.
Wrote her first letters (called "mama, look I did an A" and sure enough, there it was.)
Started a new coop playgroup
Had her pictures taken professionally in the Publick Garden (will post soon)
Had a classic separation/attachment episode. For at least a week, she couldn't stand to be near me at all (wouldn't sit next to me at the library, running away at the park, not sitting on my lap during reading, no kissing ("not all the time, mama, just sometimes" , I'm not Mama's girl, I Butchie's / Papa's girl"), etc. and then suddenly one day she wanted to be rocked like a baby, requested "Hush, Little Baby" and "Rock-a-bye", and crawled all around. She wanted to hear about "baby Kate' incessantly, and then after a few days everything went back to normal. Now I can kiss her (and sometime get one back) and she will be seen with me publicly. Amazing stuff!
Turned 2!!

04/06/10
We met Papa and Rover (who has the same exact birthday!) and his parents, Cathel and Mark, for lunch in Harvard Square, and then ran home (see video). Kate, Mama and Papa all had cupcakes and Kate opened a few gifts. A great birthday!
You look fab, Rover.
A little window shopping and trying to look cool...
Lip balm for Rover
So happy!
Time for naps?
Walking Papa back to his office
and stopping to smell the April flowers...
and than ran all the way home. Note how evasive she is being about her age as I try to wrestle it out of her!

Birthdays in April can be tough: rain? shine? coat or no coat? But, for sure, sunglasses are always appropriate on your birthday.

Presents!! A DOG book from Papa and a rabbit hutch from Mama
Rover gave Kate a mama and baby panda and Kate gave Rover a cat... After she went to bed I discovered that she put her own cat and her new panda together in the barn...
