365 days of Alex!

Alex turned 1!  We had a dinner party for her.  Kate chose the plates (looks like Peekaboo Farm (a book), Mama, she'll love it!)
Kate and I made the cupcakes and Papa supplied the balloon (which hung around the house for weeks)

Kate was so diligent setting up for the party

Looks satisfactory

Let me at em
First cupcake went great.  Unlike Kate, she ate the cake part, too.

One more?
OK.  :-)
Present time!
Kate chose this peg hammering bench for Alex.  "Because she loves to whack"  Remember how Kate dubbed Alex's repeated arm movement her "whacking arm" when she was a newborn?  Well, she still has it and LOVES this bench.  I mean she really loved it more than any other gift.  So sweet that Kate apparently knows her best!

Notice Kat's face.  Suddenly she got quiet and then tearfully announced she wasn't having a good time.  She was unprepared for Alex having gifts and she none.  She got over it quickly but needed some TLC :-)
Kate loves to help her with it

Beautiful gift from Grammie came in the mail

Puzzle and PJ book.  Kate loved it.  I mean Alex.

A gift from Mama and Papa.  A WOW motorcycle
Alex loves her "guys".  If you tell her "go bring me a guys, Alex", she will toddle over and bring you a few.  I think he is even saying "guys"

I love the mama guy. :-()

Three Cooks in the Kitchen

Alex's birthday tomorrow!  Any excuse to make cupcakes is welcome in this house.  Kate loves to bake!  She informed me that "every great cook needs to taste, mama"

Now we have a 3rd cook in the kitchen. She is happy to empty all of my cabinets.

Oops
Note Kate's message to Alex on the fridge. "up high so she won't mess with it"
Don't tickle the cook's feet as a general rule of etiquette in the kitchen

The price of keeping Alex happy so I can help Kate

Superbowl Baby

We had a family birthday party for Alex on Superbowl Sunday.  Last year, I went into labor during the game, so good thing the Patriots weren't in it!  They made it this year, however, so we combined the two parties.

When I called Lyndell's to order the cake, I specifically and deliberately said "my daughter, Alex" several times. I guess they still thought there was no way a girl could have a football on her cake.  Our Alex loves them though!  Although you know I would be complaining if they 'pinked-out" the cake.  Fussy mama.  The lion was Kate's suggestion because Alex loves her ride-on lion toy we borrowed from Josh and Missy.  We always say "bonjour, happy lion!"  The cake was delicious.

Alex and Ben.  She loves a good game of tug of war
Nana and Alex.  They are 85 years apart!

First cake

I can really get away with this?
Here, Josh, have some

Red, white and blue for the Pats.  The game did not go well.

as you can reckon from papa's face
and Josh and Bubs

It still didn't ruin our party, though

Guacamole for dinner

Happy birthday, Alex!  May the Superbowl never interfere with you having a good time on your birthday.
